LATHAM, NY – The New York State Public High School Athletic Association Inc. (NYSPHSAA) announces its winter 2024 Scholar-Athlete teams and number of Scholar-Athlete individuals per team. This is the 32nd year NYSPHSAA has conducted the Scholar-Athlete program, which is sponsored by Pupil Benefits Plan, Inc.

   NYSPHSAA recognized 3,225 Scholar-Athlete teams this winter. To qualify as a team, 75% of a team’s average GPA for the season must be equal to or greater than 90%. Additionally, 38,032 students received individual scholar-athlete recognition by earning an individual average of 90 or above this winter season, whether their team qualified or not.

“Congratulations to the over 38,000 student-athletes who earned scholar-athlete recognition this Winter.” said NYSPHSAA Executive Director Dr. Robert Zayas. “It takes a strong effort and work ethic from a student-athlete to build a solid academic base and simultaneously a competitive spirit in their sport, and NYSPHSAA is proud to recognize those efforts.” 

This winter, 621 schools participated in the program, which is over 80% of the NYSPHSAA membership.

Candor High School submitted 4 teams for Scholar Athlete Status:

Boys Basketball with a team GPA of 95% with 9 scholar athletes, Boys Bowling with a team GPA of 90% with 5 scholar athletes, Girls Basketball with a team GPA of 97% with 5 scholar athletes & Girls Bowling with a team GPA of 90% with 3 scholar athletes.
